Tariff Classification: Centrorochas Clarifies Quartzite Exemption and Invites the Industry to a Webinar with U.S. Specialist

Reinforcing its commitment to clarity and operational security, Centrorochas invites exporting companies and their U.S. importers to a technical webinar and advises that all operations be conducted in full compliance with official guidelines.

The exemption from the additional 40% tariff for products classified under code HTSUS 6802.99.00 – which covers Brazilian quartzites – represented an important step forward for the natural stone sector. This achievement, the result of negotiations by the Brazilian Natural Stone Association (Centrorochas) with partners in Brazil and the United States, brought relief to exporting companies and highlighted the importance of technical and institutional dialogue between the two countries.

Now, as a new step in guiding the sector, Centrorochas will hold on August 7, at 12:00 p.m. (Brasília time), HTSUS Decoded: Navigating U.S. Tariff Rules for Brazilian Natural Stones, an exclusive webinar featuring Gabriel Rodrigues, customs broker and president of A Customs Brokerage, a logistics company with over 40 years of experience in the nationalization of goods in the United States.

Aimed at companies that are members of the association and their respective importers in the United States, the webinar will be conducted in a presentation format, with interaction only via chat, ensuring practicality and privacy for participants. The participation of both sides of the operation is highly recommended, as this will be a strategic opportunity to clarify doubts directly with a local specialist, align interpretations, and strengthen legal and commercial security in stone exports for upcoming operations.

Tariff Classification

As widely known by companies in the sector, the export process in Brazil is carried out based on the NCM nomenclature. Conversion to the HTSUS code occurs exclusively at the product’s nationalization stage in the United States, and is the direct responsibility of the U.S. importer.

Therefore, Centrorochas’ guidance is clear: companies should maintain their export operations as usual, following the same procedures and codes already in place, without assuming interpretations or reclassifications that are not supported by official documents.

Institutional Representation in Washington

Last Friday (August 1), Centrorochas led an official agenda at the Brazilian Embassy in Washington, delivering a joint letter to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and the Natural Stone Institute (NSI). The document reinforces the request for the inclusion of other Brazilian-origin materials in the U.S. tariff exemption list, such as marble, granite, and slate.

The association continues to work actively both in Brazil and abroad to expand this list of eligible codes, with the goal of protecting jobs, contracts, and investments in both countries and maintaining the commercial flow of Brazilian natural stones to the U.S. market.
