Holder of the greatest geological diversity in the world, Brazil has more than 1,200 varieties of natural ornamental rocks. These materials and the most diverse forms of finishing will serve as a source of inspiration for students of Architecture and Urbanism courses in Brazil during the Natural Stone Challenge – 1st Brazilian Academic Architecture Award, which will take place between August of this year and January of next year ; with regional stages and, at the end, a national stage.
Conducted by the Brazilian Center for Ornamental Stone Exporters (Centrorochas), World Natural Stone Association (Wonasa) and Vitoria Stone Fair, with institutional support from the Brazilian Association of Architecture and Urbanism Education (ABEA) and the Brazilian Association of Architectural Offices (AsBEA ), the Natural Stone Challenge aims to select and award the best proposals for academic architectural projects that specify the use of Brazilian dimension stones. Students from the 3rd year and recent graduates (2nd semester/20 to 1st semester/22) of Architecture and Urbanism courses in Brazil, duly enrolled in an educational institution or registered with the Council of Architecture and Urbanism, may participate.
The challenge aims to spread the application of natural and ornamental stones from Brazil in the architecture sector, contributing to the improvement of the training of new professionals.
The winners in the regional stages will receive tablets and an advanced course on software used in the area as recognition. The first place in the challenge (national phase) will be awarded with an international trip, with the right to a companion, to Verona in Italy, where he will participate in Marmomac, one of the main fairs in the stone sector in the world. The runner-up will win a trip to the Cachoeiro Stone Fair, the most traditional marble and granite fair in Latin America, held in Espírito Santo.
The launch took place on August 16, at the Hotel Grand Mercure São Paulo – Ibirapuera, and brought together representatives of the filmmakers and supporters, coordinators of architecture and urbanism courses. Between the months of August and December, registrations and regional judgments will take place, the evaluation of the national stage will take place by the end of January 2023. The result of the regional stage will take place by the end of December and the national stage by the end of January of next year.

The Natural Stone Challenge – 1st Brazilian Academic Architecture Award is a national architectural design competition aimed at students and recent graduates of Architecture and Urbanism courses throughout Brazil.
