  • Porto do Açu performs first cabotage service in partnership with Norsul

The activity is monitored by Centrorochas and Sindirochas, as well as all actions that may break the logistical bottlenecks present in operations for exporting Brazilian dimension stones.

This Wednesday, September 16, Porto do Açu carried out its first cabotage service. The operation, in partnership with Companhia de Navegação Norsul, was carried out in the “feeder short distance” modality and transported 23 containers from the company TechnipFMC from the Port of Rio to Açu, in São João da Barra (RJ), via sea train. The complete journey will feature ornamental stone containers leaving Açu for the Port of Rio, connecting with export services to Latin America and the United States.

Signed in April this year, the partnership between the port development and the maritime logistics company will establish an integrated, efficient and safe connection between the companies in the North of Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo and Minas Gerais, with the world, through the Multicargas Terminal of Porto do Porto. Açu (T-MULT).

This first cargo, which arrived at Açu by sea convoy, will be stored in the T-MULT and will be delivered according to the customer’s needs, at its base located in the port itself. “The new service also enables the efficient connection of exporting companies with long-haul ships that regularly leave Rio for the whole world. This new solution demonstrates Açu’s potential to become a port hub. For customers, it is a great solution, because we have the differential of being a port without a queue and private, where operations can be carried out in a customized way”, explains the Director of Terminals and Logistics at Porto do Açu Operations, João Braz.

The service has the capacity to transport up to 350 units per stretch (Rio x Açu and Açu x Rio), with regular fortnightly departures, meeting regional demands and also long-haul routes. The expectation is that the use of ocean convoys will reduce logistical costs and road traffic, bringing greater predictability and safety, in addition to sustainable value, since it will result in a real reduction of carbon emissions in the environment in the order of 22 pct, the remaining emissions will be neutralized by Norsul’s Carbon Neutral Program.

In support of maritime transport, Açu also offers integrated handling, unloading, storage, stuffing and door-to-door road transport services, according to customer demand. Today, the Port of Açu Multicargo Terminal handles coke, coal, bauxite, gypsum, pig iron, general and project cargo, in addition to being authorized to operate other solid bulk cargoes and vehicles. Recently, the expansion of the storage yard was completed with the assembly of tarpaulin sheds to store fertilizers.
