On 05/10, the Governor of Espírito Santo, Renato Casagrande received a group of businessmen and advisers from the ornamental stone sector in Espírito Santo. The president of Centrorochas, Tales Machado and the president of Sindirochas, Ed Martins, were part of the group. On the agenda of the meeting, claims of the segment in the areas of infrastructure, taxation/supervision and environment.

Also participating in the hearing were state secretaries Fabrício Machado (Environment), Marcelo Altoé (Finance) and Ricardo Pessanha (Development).

Largest exporting state of ornamental stones, in 2021, Espírito Santo accumulated a total of US$ 1.14 billion dollars, accounting for 83.3% of all stone exported by Brazil. “The highlight of our State is due to the performance of the entire production chain in the transformation of the product”, reinforced Ed Martins. The segment generates around 25,000 direct jobs and 100,000 indirect jobs in ES. It is also responsible for around 10% of Espírito Santo’s GDP and 8% of the Industrial Transformation Value (VTI), as a result of the performance of around 1,600 companies that make up the sectoral productive chain that is present in the 78 municipalities of the State.

The president of Centrorochas recalled the large participation of companies from Espírito Santo in Coverings 2022, the largest and most traditional North American fair in the covering segment, held from April 5th to 8th in the United States. “In 2021, the first year of signing the sectoral agreement signed between Centrorochas and ApexBrasil, the sector achieved a national export record, totaling US$ 1.34 billion. We recently recorded the largest area occupied by the Brazilian Pavilion at Coverings. Among the 73 companies in the stone sector present at the event, 62 were from Espírito Santo”, revealed Tales Machado.

Despite the positive data, the challenges for maintenance and development of the sector are permanent. Several requests were presented to the Governor and his team, among them the need for support to improve local logistics. Tales informed that each and every container that leaves Espírito Santo depends on cabotage transport or long journeys by road, generating increased costs and transit time, negatively impacting the competitiveness of Espírito Santo industries. The Governor recalled the port works that are under development in the State and said that he will support the stone sector in this important advance that will also benefit other sectors of the economy of Espírito Santo.

Meeting agenda: port capacity, railway, regional airports, infrastructure of the District of São Joaquim, accumulated ICMS credits, ICMS rate on energy, Differential Rate, Sinief 31/20 Adjustment, minimum price list, untying of licensing processes environmental aspects of procedures with the ANM, policy to encourage the use of what is currently classified as waste, among others.
