The Brazilian natural stone sector is expanding its global presence following the Prospective Mission to India, held from November 24 to 28. The initiative, promoted by the It’s Natural – Brazilian Natural Stone project and developed by the Brazilian Center of Ornamental Stone Exporters (Centrorochas) in partnership with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil), aimed to explore opportunities and challenges in the Indian market, considered one of the most promising in the world.
As a continuation of the mission, the India Market Study will be presented on January 30, providing detailed analyses of consumption trends, logistics, and positioning strategies for Brazilian materials. With its rapidly growing economy and a long-established culture of using natural stones, India is emerging as a strategic destination for Brazilian materials.
Prospective Mission to India
According to Fabio Cruz, vice president of Centrorochas, who participated in the mission, Brazilian quartzites hold a significant advantage in the Indian market due to their exceptional durability and unique aesthetics, which position them as premium materials. “However, it is essential for local importers and consumers to recognize this value, avoiding unfair comparisons with cheaper marbles from other countries, such as Turkey and Iran. Through the market study and the prospective mission, our goal is to develop strategies that communicate this exclusivity and position our products competitively in a market that is both challenging and promising,” he emphasized.
Despite the strong commercial potential, logistics remains a significant obstacle to increasing exports. “Overcoming this barrier would pave the way to boosting sales and transforming India into a regional distribution hub, focusing on both domestic consumption and re-exporting semi-finished products (slabs). With these actions, we can unlock the vast potential of the Indian market and establish Brazilian quartzite as a benchmark in the country,” he added.
