After authorization from the Brazilian Navy, this month, Codesa began test maneuvers with larger draft ships in the Port of Vitória. In the second test, loaded with 34,000t of granite slabs, the vessel left the Port of Vitória surpassing the five-year mark without transporting that amount of granite in a single vessel through the port of Espírito Santo.
In total, 24 maneuvers will be carried out, 12 entering and 12 leaving, with vessels with greater cargo capacity, that is, more loaded. So far, two tests have been carried out on berth 203, at the Vila Velha Port Terminal (TVV). The first rehearsal took place on May 6th, when the vessel Cosco Shipping Zhuo Yue, from Agência Transshipping, with a draft of 11m, undocked from the pier. The second test was on the 10th, with the Tian Fu ship, from the Transshipping company, with 34,000t of granite slabs.
The test maneuvers stage obeys technical restrictions that aim to guarantee the total safety of the process. According to the president of Codesa, Julio Castiglioni, the vessels will be able to enter or leave the port with 20% more cargo capacity. “By market logic, if the ship operates with more cargo, this represents a reduction in logistical costs, in addition to other actions that we are implementing to lower operating costs and attract more customers. We want the Port of Vitória to be much better and more competitive”, he pointed out and highlighted that once this phase is completed, the Port of Vitória presents itself as an excellent alternative for cabotage navigation and confirms its vocation for foreign trade.
